Canine Cognition: How Dogs Think About People

An interesting study was conducted by the Duke Canine Cognition Center.  They conduct research studies to learn about how dogs think.   Wouldn’t we all love to know what our pup is thinking?  Maybe now we can.

The research process is kind to dogs, so don’t fret.  The dogs are put through a variety of games, similar to what young children might play.

According to Director Brian Hare “Domestication has made dogs more intelligent, but they’re still not perfect.”  ”They can solve almost any problem if they rely on people.”

Dogs are social and understand the different relationships they have with different people.  And they understand if their owner turns their back they can misbehave.

Sounds sort of like kids, right? :-)

There’s also a series on CNN’s AC360 with Anderson Cooper on “Animal Intelligence”.  Airs tonight (November 18, 2010) at 10:00pm EST.
